I just read the news that Terry Pratchett has begun the process to end his own life.
I felt I wanted to share this on my site because this is the man who inspired me to write.
For those of you who have never read any Terry Pratchett you owe it to yourself to pick up a Discworld novel. Terry Pratchett's witty imagination has created a flat world that floats through space on the back of a giant turtle populated by witches, wizards, gods, the anthropomorphic personification of Death and many of the most colourful characters in fiction. Yet within this fantastic land Terry Pratchett holds a mirror to our own world and exposes how truly ridiculous it often is.
Terry Pratchett was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2008 and since then has become an advocate for Alzheimer's treatment, being very public during his battle with the disease. He has also become a supporter of assisted suicide, you can watch his film, Terry Pratchett: Choosing to Die here.
Terry Pratchett has meant more to me creatively than any other single writer, living or dead. I can't remember a time since early High School that I haven't had one of his books nearby - thank you Sir Terry and I wish you the best no matter what you choose.
