Updates aplenty

I'm not dead. I know I've been quiet on the blog lately but that's not the reason. I can assure you of that because it's life that's been keeping me from blogging.

Let's start with the good news. I'm having a baby! Today my wife is 24 weeks along with our first child, a little boy, heir to my throne. As I look around at my apartment I can say to him as he grows inside my wife, "One day son, all this will be yours, except the books and blu-rays, I'm keeping those."

That little guy is obviously something that's been keeping me excited for the last little while and I promise I'm not at all terrified about bringing a small human into the world and raising him into a respectable man and not managing to let him kill or horrifically maim himself in the process, nope, not terrified at all. *gulp*.

I've also been quiet on the writing front because in early November I finished the first draft of my third novel and so have used the time since then to take a bit of a break and recharge the batteries. I think it's important to give yourself space away from a piece of work to ensure you can come back with fresh eyes. It becomes difficult to see the true flaws in your work, or even the solutions to flaws you already know are there, when you don't give yourself time away. On top of that, having written three novels, a graphic novel and a bunch of shorter pieces over a couple of years while working full time does tend to leave one a little burnt out.

Luckily, I'm about to head away for a four week holiday over Christmas and intend to fling myself back into writing and blogging in the New Year, right up until my little man turns up and then who knows, no doubt he throws everything into disarray.

In other news Ink Tales was successful in its crowd-funding campaign which is fantastic, (thanks to everyone who supported it!), it's launching tomorrow (Saturday the 14th) at 1pm at the Bendigo Hotel in Collingwood, Melbourne as part of the Comicpalooza Comic Launch. I'll be there along with many of the other contributors for a signing session so hopefully I'll see some of you there.

If I don't have a chance to post before then I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday period with the warm company of friends and family.
